Events of 9/11 Marked with U.S. Embassy Community Service Project
On Friday September 11, the U.S. Embassy, St. Paul’s Bay Local Council, and the Ministry of Resources and Rural Affairs (MRRA) organized a community service activity to commemorate the events of September 11, 2001. Members of the U.S. Embassy family, together with the Local Council, MRRA officials and residents of St. Paul’s Bay, spent an afternoon cleaning up the woodland area near Xemxija Church. Participants included volunteers from the Embassy’s Marine Security Guard detachment and members of the growing immigrant community of St. Paul’s Bay. In addition to cleaning up the park, the participants planted ten olive trees as a contribution to the on-going reforestation of the area.
Speaking about the event, Mr. Jason Davis, Chargé d’Affaires of the U.S. Embassy said, “Today we join U.S. Embassies around the world in holding a day of community service to commemorate the tragic events of 9/11. It’s an honor and a privilege for me and my family to be here today to work with our American, Maltese and international friends to help conserve and enhance Malta’s natural beauty.”
