On Friday February 17, the Gozo School of Art organized an event to honor famous American artists. To help support the event, Public Affairs Officer, Elijah Waterman, donated several books on American artists to the Hon. Giovanna Debono, Minister for Gozo, on behalf of the school. The Embassy also organized a digital video conference on the American artist Edward Hopper with Professor Gail Levin (PhD, Rutgers University), who is an art historian and teaches Art History at Baruch College and the Graduate Center of CUNY.  Professor Levin is a renowned expert on Hopper and has published more than a dozen books about the artist and his life.

The DVC was well attended by students from the art school and their teachers, as well as interested members of the general public. Professor Levin gave an interesting talk on Edward Hopper’s technique, information on his background, family, and his wife Jo who was also an artist and his primary model. After her presentation Professor Levin engaged the audience by taking comments and answering a number of questions.

Both Minister Debono and Head of School Mr. Joseph Attard thanked the Embassy for the books and for making the DVC possible and both said that they looked forward to future collaboration with the U.S. Embassy.
