On Wednesday May 9, The Embassy organized a digital video conference at the University of Malta, in collaboration with the Department of International Relations on “U.S. Foreign Policy and the US Elections”. The DVC was well attended by students and faculty members. Members of the press were also present.

To enable the students to hear the views of both sides of the political spectrum, Dr. Kenneth R. Weinstein of the Hudson Institute, spoke of the Republican Party’s views on foreign policy, and Dr. Lawrence J. Korb of the Center for American Progress, gave the Democrat’s perspective.  The main issues that they touched upon were Iran, Syria, withdrawal from Afghanistan and the re-setting of missile defense in Poland/Czech Republic. Their remarks were followed by questions from the students, who asked to hear the Parties’ views on the Palestinian question, climate change, the influence Congress would have on the new Presidency, relations with Russia and Putin as President, and relations with the EU.

Ms. Valentina Cassar, lecturer at the Department of International Relations, thanked the Embassy for making the DVC possible and said that she looked forward to future collaboration, particularly organizing another DVC with the same speakers after the U.S. elections in November.
