On June 3, Ambassador Douglas Kmiec hosted a reception in honor of English Teaching Assistants (ETA) Robbie Gordy and Katy Krauland. Guests included the Head of the Department of English at the University of Malta, the Subject Coordinator for the Ministry of Education, as well as teachers who worked closely with the ETAs during their program in Malta over the past year.
The ETAs were very active in the University of Malta’s English Program and were of invaluable assistance to the English teachers in two local state schools. Mr. Gordy’s contributions in particular went well beyond his Fulbright responsibilities, as he regularly volunteered his time to participate in the Embassy's Community Outreach Program at schools and local councils.
Through these additional outreach activities, and as part of the Embassy's extended community, he was an excellent 'Cultural Ambassador' fostering U.S.-Maltese bilateral relations in the field of education and culture. Through their nine-month program, both Ms. Krauland and Mr. Gordy have demonstrated academic and cultural diplomacy at its finest.
