Latest on the New Embassy Project
Here is the latest on the New Embassy Project:
On July 19, Parliament unanimously approved the government's proposed sale of land to the U.S. government for a new Embassy. We are grateful for Parliament's action and the bipartisan support.
A contractor for the Maltese government has begun work on clearing the site.
U.S. government architects have prepared a preliminary design. The architects visited Malta in early August to explain the preliminary design to MEPA, government officials and U.S. embassy staff. They received numerous useful comments which they have taken back to incorporate into the next version of the design.
The design emphasizes 'green' technologies, including state of the art strategies for sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality. Features will include special windows, sun deflection elements, appropriate landscaping and water catchment systems.
We have filed an outline development plan application with MEPA and expect to convert that into a full development plan in the coming months.
